Services: Accessible Design Compliance, Special Research and Studies, and Facility Accessibility Audits

SPH has expertise in conducting accessible design compliance reviews, special assessments (e.g., signage and wayfinding) and facility accessibility audits specific to museums, cultural centres, and heritage facilities. This includes the development of comprehensive compliance and research reports, accessibility audit reports (e.g., for barrier identification) and barrier removal action plan reports (e.g., providing cost estimates, remedial recommendations and establishing priorities). 


Selected Projects:

Casa Loma (City of Toronto): Conducted comprehensive facility accessibility audit of exterior and interior areas, including the development of barrier removal action plan.

Aga Khan Museum and Ismaili Centre: Accessible design compliance reviews, schematic design phase for this complex of cultural, community and religious facilities located on a 17 acre site in Toronto  (with APC Inc.). Complex consists of  the Aga Khan Museum (design architect Maki and Associates), and the Ismali Centre and Jamatkhana (design architect Charles Correa Associates), a community/religious centre. Moriyama and Teshima, architect of record.

Town of Richmond Hill: Conducted comprehensive facility accessibility audits of exterior and interior areas for nine (9) heritage and cultural facilities, including the development of barrier removal action plans. Facilities include: Amos Wright House, Boynton Farm House, Burr House, Eyer Homestead, Guild Hall, Mill St. House, Richmond Green Railway Station, Shaw House and Forester Farmhouse and Vanderburgh House.

City of Markham: Conducted comprehensive facility accessibility audits of exterior and interior areas for diverse arts, culture and heritage facilities, including the development of barrier removal action plans. Facilities include: Markham Theatre, Heintzman House, Varley Art Gallery, Old Unionville Library and Community Centre and Thornhill Village Library.
