Women’s College Hospital
Services: Facility Accessibility Audit, Retrofits & Design Compliance
On behalf of Infrastructure Ontario (formerly ORC) conducted a facility accessibility audit and design compliance review of 77 Grenville Street (Toronto) to identify accessibility issues prior to the retrofit and conversion of 120,000 SF of space. 40,000 SF of this space was occupied temporarily by Women’s College Hospital as clinical and office space while they constructed their new facility. An accessibility audit of the facility, including the parking, exterior, and interior areas, provided recommendations for accessibility upgrades to remove barriers based on compliance with the Ontario Realty Corporation’s “Pilot Accessibility Design Standard for Ontario Government Facilities” (ADS). The accessible design review included an evaluation of the site plan and architectural drawings to ensure compliance with the ADS. A detailed report was prepared for the design team and client group to identify accessibility non-compliance and to provide recommendations for improvements. Ongoing consultation with client, design team and stakeholders was conducted at various stages of the design process.
